New Report Shows NWA Continues Economic Climb

A new report, 2017 State of the Northwest Arkansas Region Report, researched by the University of Arkansas Center for Business and Economic Research and published by the Northwest Arkansas Council shows positive signs for the Northwest Arkansas Metropolitan area. In every major category that should be growing, such as employment and education, NWA is trending up. One of the most positive signs of the area’s strength is total employment which rose 4% over last year. Even more impressive is that total employment outpaced the region's population growth by 1.7%. Walmart Announces New Campus

Walmart Stores Inc. has recently announced their intention to build a brand new home office a few mile from their current headquarters. Rumors had been swirling for a while as many people started noticing Walmart buying up land between SE J Street and SE Moberly Avenue. The move was officially announced to employees via email by current CEO Doug McMillon. The age of the current home office, which was built in 1971, and the need for one unified campus were among the reasons given by McMillon for the move. U.S. News & World Report's annual high school rankings list has 7 Northwest Arkansas schools ranked in the top 10 in the state. 21c Museum Hotel's Bentonville location has recently been named as the one of "The Top 15 City Hotels in the Continental United States" by travelandleisure.com. The Bentonville hotel ranked eighth in the country with a score of 94.95. According to Travel and Leisure, "Hotels were rated on their facilities, location, service, food, and overall value." Bentonville wasn't the only 21c property to make the list, the Oklahoma City location came in at #3 with a score of 95.77.
