We are so excited to launch our newest blog series - Educate: NWA.

This series will take a special look at the extraordinary educational resources our community has to offer and how education offered in Northwest Arkansas truly sets us apart from much of the nation.  From business and retail labor to skilled medical workforce to finance executives to high tech manufacturing, our highly skilled and educated workforce has been one of the major economic drivers for new business in the Northwest Arkansas community.  Northwest Arkansas is setting the bar for our state's job growth.  According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, Northwest Arkansas was number four in the nation for percentage job growth in 2013 creating roughly 10,000 jobs last year at a growth rate of almost 5%.  Of those created jobs, over 1,000 were six figure (+) jobs just in Benton County.

According to the 2013 NWA Education Report Card conducted by the Northwest Arkansas Council, there were a total of 62, 547 children enrolled in secondary education in Rogers, Bentonville, Springdale, Fayetteville and Siloam Springs.  That number does not include all the rural schools in our region.

This number continues to grow each year, and the amount of children graduating high school and starting their careers and post-secondary education journeys continue to increase as well.

So where do these children go after they graduate?

Last year, 35,760 students attended the University of Arkansas, John Brown University, and Northwest Arkansas Community College.  Northwest Arkansas now has a degree attainment rate approaching 30% which is a record for our area.

This series will take a deeper look into how education is continuing to impact our economic growth and propel our area's business development.  Check back each week over the next two months to learn more about the region's educational opportunities!
