Located in Springdale, Arkansas, The Jones Center weaves together the diverse community of Northwest Arkansas in a fun, family-orientated environment. The 220,000 square-foot building houses a conference center, a chapel, a swimming pool, an ice rink, and a fitness center. With coordinated community events and organized recreational teams, The Jones Center is a recreational hub for Northwest Arkansas residents of all ages and backgrounds.

“The Jones Center provides a place for families to come together to have fun together. We provide programs that get the community active and offer a place to learn new activities and skills,” says Michael Kirk, director of recreation at The Jones Center.

What recreational activities does the Jones Center offer?

The Jones Center offers programs for the whole family, offering many instructional classes for youth and adults, such as gymnastics, ballet, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, and summer camps.

In the ice rink members can take a “Learn-to-Skate” class, figure skating, curling, youth and adult hockey and broomball. The Jones Center also hosts special events such as Frozen Day on July 25.*

The gymnasium features an indoor track, adult volleyball, futsal (indoor soccer), and pick-up basketball. In the pools, families and members can take swimming lessons, join a competitive swim team or take water fitness classes. The pool also supports lap swimming and family swim time.

The Jones Center also offers 25 fitness classes per week that come with the memberships.

* Frozen Day – Ice Skate event will host character actors from Once Upon A Party NWA as the Disney's Frozen characters on July 25 from noon to 3 p.m. Admission is $3 per person with free skate rentals. Come dressed as your favorite character from the movie!

Who is eligible for membership at the Jones Center?

The Harvey and Bernice Jones Center for Families was founded in 2005 and provides activities for families and individuals of all ages. The programs offered at the facility are membership-based with scholarship opportunities for low-income families.

Becca and Brandon Horner are a testament to the benefits of the Jones Center scholarship programs. The young couple realized hardship after they both lost their jobs in 2009. When Becca was experiencing pain during her pregnancy with their first child, her doctor recommended swimming as a remedy.

“I didn’t know what we were going to do, because we can’t afford to spend $5, $6, $7 per person every time we go swimming. So when I looked into The Jones Center I thought, ‘That would be a huge blessing for us.’”

Thanks in part to the Jones Center, Becca was able to remain active and healthy during her pregnancy. Their son, Adler, is now a healthy 4-year-old.

“He is full of energy and loves to learn,” Becca says. “It’s fun to watch his personality develop and watch him learn about the world around him.”

“We’re really grateful that this facility is here in the community,” she says.

In May, the Jones Center received a $250,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation. How does this grant help fund activities at The Jones Center?

The Walmart Foundation funding allows the Jones Center offer much needed scholarships to low-income families. The funding also supports youth and recreation programs to make the center more accessible to everyone. In addition, the funding supports community meeting space scholarships, allowing nonprofits low-cost options for training and meeting/conference space.
