Walmart Announces New Campus Featured

Walmart Stores Inc. has recently announced their intention to build a brand new home office a few mile from their current headquarters. Rumors had been swirling for a while as many people started noticing Walmart buying up land between SE J Street and SE Moberly Avenue. The move was officially announced to employees via email by current CEO Doug McMillon. The age of the current home office, which was built in 1971, and the need for one unified campus were among the reasons given by McMillon for the move. The new campus will be approximately 30 acres with frontage along Central Avenue. Walmart has not announced a start date for the project but estimates that it could take anywhere from 5 to 7 years to complete. McMillon stated Walmart wants the new campus to create a "digitally native workforce and space that encourages greater collaboration and speed." The announcement comes days after Amazon made it known they intend to build a $5 billion second campus somewhere in North America. Walmart and Amazon are not only fighting for ground in sales but also in their ability to attract quality employees by adopting more "tech company" style campuses.
