Heartland Whole Health Institute was founded in 2019 by Alice L Walton, philanthropist and Walmart heir. The nonprofit’s mission is “to increase access to care, improve outcomes, and transform the health care system” through prevention and value-based care. With an emphasis on physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being, the institute aims to “put the patient at the center of a collaborative, preventative, and value-based care model.”
The 85,000-square-foot facility opened its doors in May of 2025. It sits on the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art campus & was designed by Marlon Blackwell Architects. The goal with the design of the building was to reflect the Institute’s mission as well as tie in elements from the Northwest Arkansas region. The campus is connected to the Crystal Bridges museum, Scott Family Amazeum, and the future Alice L Walton School of Medicine via trails, walkways, and green space.
Through regional and national partnerships, the Heartland Whole Health Institute will be able to provide exceptional care to those seeking to transform their well-being. Some of those partnerships include Mercy Health Systems, Alice L Walton School of Medicine, Northwest Arkansas Council, Cleveland Clinic, Community Clinic of Northwest Arkansas, and the Alice L Walton Foundation. These partnerships, together, can offer accessible care, extensive research, and community care for years to come.
