The Walton Family Foundation in partnership with their Northwest Arkansas Food Systems initiative, announced a new food hub called the Market Center of the Ozarks. This new resource center will be located in Downtown Springdale at 713 E Meadow Ave. This new 45,000 square foot facility will offer community space for learning, commercial kitchens, and crop aggregation capabilities to local farmers, food entrepreneurs, and residents. The Northwest Arkansas Food systems initiative seeks to equip our region with the necessary tools to become a national model for locally grown food. Combining these tools to assist local farmers with the central location and diversity of Springdale, the Market Center of the Ozarks will open the door to opportunity for many. It will increase the availability for major purchasers in our region to source locally grown produce.
The project has an estimated cost of $31 million with an expected start date of June 2022. The Walton Family Foundation and its partners are hopeful that the Market Center of the Ozarks will be completed in 2024. With agriculture being the #1 industry in Arkansas, this new facility will tremendously benefit our region.
